Every major tournament we cover, no matter where we go, the same thing creeps up and attacks poker players nationwide. We've come to know it as ... the Legend of the Food Coma, and here's how it goes.
Players sit at poker tables for 6 or more hours - focused on their play, their chips, opponent tells and more - then get a chance to try out the local buffets, feel fresh air in their faces, and they let their minds drift from poker for a bit.
When they return from dinner break, 15-20 percent of them are nice and comfortable, and maybe the extra helping of meatloaf or creme brulee affects their judgement. Next thing you know, all their chips are in the middle, and sliding towards an opponent as the rail beckons.
Tonight is no exception, as 16 percent of the field returning from dinner break ran into Food Coma and busted in the first 40 minutes back from dinner.
