ERIC SALAZAR - HPT DAYTONA BEACH CHAMPION

Eric Salazar held off the very-difficult-to-eliminate Michael Rosenberg heads-up to win the @HPTpoker $1,100 Main Event @DBKCandPR in Daytona Beach, FL.

Salazar earns $101,976 for the victory, including a $3,500 package to the Season XV HPT Championship next month at Hollywood St. Louis. Rosenberg, who doubled-up eight times at the final table, collects his biggest-ever tournament cash of $60,797 as runner-up.

One of the deepest HPT $1,100's ever - the blinds reached 125k/250k  - wrapped up after seven hours with Salazar taking the title. The pace-of-play was quite patient throughout the final table - and all of Day 2 as well here in Daytona Beach. The field was still 4-handed when the blinds reached the 100,000/200,000 w/200,000 ante level 32.

Ronnie Dowdy took third - he and Rosenberg doubled each other up as final table play took place. Dowdy earned $40,640, Martin Borras fell in fourth ($28,044) when his Kings did not hold. He was preceded to the rail by start-of-day chipleader Luke Graham (5th, $21,193) and Paul Chung (6th, $16,404).

Six-handed play went for almost 90-minutes, but the first three eliminations were quick, happening in the first 45 minutes of play, with Tom Nguyen in 7th ($13,701), Art Boatman in 8th ($11,346) and Mike Hernandez the first out today in 9th ($9,591)

Among the others who earned a Main Event cash was Mark Zullo (10th, $7,321), Stan Jablonski (14th, $5,523), Corey Zedo (19th, $3,425), Tony Miles (25th, $3,425), Maurice Hawkins (26th, $3,425) and Tom Wheaton (43rd, $2,355).

Here's the final results from the October 2019 HPT Main Event at Daytona Bech Racing and Card Club.

OCHO

Eric Salazar moves all in to keep the pressure on Michael Rosenberg, heads-up for the @HPTpoker @DBKCandPR title, and Rosenberg calls off his 2,625,000 stack - but he doesn't like where he's at once he sees the cards.

  • Rosenberg has Kd 8c
  • Salazar has yet another final table big pair, Js Jd

The flop gets a reaction - 6d 5c 7c - as Rosenberg is open-ended for a potential eighth double at the final table.

The turn 6h has Salazar calling for the board to pair, but the turn is 9h for the straight and the 8th double for Rosenberg today. He moves to 5,875,000, with Salazar now at 7,450,000.

SEVEN DOUBLES FOR ROSENBERG

With just 4BB remaining, Michael Rosenberg is all in preflop against Eric Salazar for the @HPTpoker Main Event title @DBKCandPR in Daytona Beach, FL.
  • Rosenberg turns up Qd 9d and he's in decent shape.
  • Salazar has Qh 5h
The board runs out Jd 4s 2d 8h 9h and Rosenberg's 7th double at the final table gets him to 2,625,000 - Salazar at 10,725,000.

Blinds - 125k/250k

SALAZAR SURVIVES SWEAT TO WIN BIG FLIP

All the chips get in the middle preflop, Michael Rosenberg barely in front stackwise over Eric Salazar, heads-up for the @HPTpoker @DBKCandPR Main Event title. Salazar's final 5,925,000 is at risk.
  • Salazar shows Qd Jd
  • Rosenberg is racing with 6c 6h
A massive flop for Salazar - 7d 8d 9d - gives him a flush with a gutter to a straight flush. Rosenberg's open0-ended straight draw is irrelevant.

But wait, the turn is 6d and now Rosenberg needs the board to pair for a boat, and it is a chop with a 5d river.

River is .... Th ... and Salazar doubles, Rosenberg has 1.25 million left.
