Day 1A Recap

Current leader in the HPT Season XII Player of the Year race, Ryan Gregor, was at quite the opening table. Gregor - 7th at the HPT Blackhawk Main Event, was joined to start the day by Blackhawk winner Cord Garcia and 6th place finisher Bryan Johnson. Also in today's starting field was Blackhawk's 3rd place finisher - Gary Germann - and 17th place Dick Hanley.

Gregor - looking to cash here and hold on to his top spot on the POY leaderboard going in to the Season Championships Oct. 21-25 at Thunder Valley just 90 minutes away in northern California - chipped up late in the day to bag 208,000.

Johnson was chipleader after the first 6 levels today, first player to more than 100,000 chips, on his way to bagging 167,000. Germann stayed steady for most of the day, took a huge pot from Lucas Fridriksson in Level 11 and chipped up more throughout the night to finish as the top stack with 269,500.

Garcia had a day of RunBad and his final buyin of the day was gone a few hands after dinner break. Others who came out for the first of two starting flights but did not advance to Sunday included Craig Casino, Allen Kessler, Stan Jablonski, Lee Markholt, Dan O'Brien, Steve Foutty, Lucas Fridriksson, Rian Mullins, Alan Mastic, Billy Casey, Adam Bishop and Valerie Hanley.
