Day 1B Recap

Valerie Hanley of Reno (above) was the final table bubble when HPT went to Thunder Valley in northern California 2015. She combined that with two other top-25 finishes in West Coast HPT Main Events in a 7-week span last year. She bagged 212,000 today in the final Peppermill $1,100 Main Event starting flight, good for 4th out of the 26 who advanced to Sunday's Day 2.

Allen Kessler looked to be on the way to the rail before dinner break when he slid down to 7,200 chips and drew two callers for his all-in. Kessler not only survived that, he chipped up constantly after dinner to bag a 160,000 stack for Day 2.

Cord Garcia is looking for his second HPT final table in 4 weeks and is trying to unseat Ryan Gregor in the Season XII Player of the Year race. Garcia ran bad all through Day 1A, but was the opposite today, bagging the 431,000 top-stack of Day 1B. Garcia added an extra 100,000-plus on the last hand of the night by knocking out 2015 Poker NV Challenge Main Event Champ Adam Ghattas, along with 75,000 more in the last level of the night when he picked up AA and Candace Collins shoved preflop.

Craig Casino and Stan Jablonski, Billy Casey, Michael Cooper, Zak Gilbert, Jasthi Kumar, Dan O'Brien, Steve Kujubu, Lucas Fridriksson, Toan Nguyen, Candace Collins and Ellie the Pup, Dick Hanley and Marty Gorenc took shots during Day 1B but did not bag a stack.

Dick Hanley (Valerie's husband and 17th place finisher at HPT Blackhawk a few weeks ago) and Gorenc, however, are not eliminated from the Main Event as both of them had already bagged during Friday's Day 1A and were trying to build a bigger stack today.
