The race for the Season XIII @HPTPoker Player of the Year is coming down to this weekend's $2500 Championship Event, and there's a LOT of players with a shot at winning the title.
Gary Herstein is the only one, however, who controls his own destiny.
Herstein is Leader of the Pack right now with 244.5 points. If no one else in the top 29 finishes higher than Gary, he locks up the title and earns buy-ins to six (6) HPT Main Events of his choice in Season IV.
If... Gary does NOT cash, here's what other players need to do to take over the lead. (Note, this is based on estimated field of 251-375 entries and none of the other players mentioned cashing as well).
- Cord Garcia - a 36th place finish or better
- Ed Sebesta - 15th place or better
- Michael Hahn - 8th place or better
- Tom Morse - 6th place or better
- Nick Jivkov, Matt Paten, Matt Donaldson, Rob Wazwaz and Alex Greenblatt - 1st or 2nd
The list of players who are not-yer mathematically eliminated but can become player of the year only with a first-place finish AND nobody above them cashing is pretty long. It includes ...
Michael Scarborough, William McCracken, Walt Lustgraf, Dan O'Brien, Shane Faulk, Ben Scrogins, Craig Casino, Darrell Haywood, Ari Engel, Danny Gonzalez, Robert Geith, Austin Wentling, Keven Stammen, Fernando Galvan, Nikola Budzakoski, Matt Culp, Matthew Livingston, Kurt Jewell and Allen Kessler.
