RACING FOR PLAYER OF YEAR

Ossama Estafanous' lead over Jake Baumgartner is just 23 points as those two are atop the @HPTpoker Season XIV Player of the Year Leaderboard. This $2,500 Season Championship @AmeristarEC is the final tournament of the year to earn POY points.

Players must cash in a HPT Main Event to earn points towards the POY title that passes along to the winner a $10,000 package of HPT Season XV Main Event entries and hotel accommodations at locations they travel to play their entries.

Estafanous bagged a Top-10 stack to advance to Day 2 today, but has lost 3/4ths of it in the first hour of play. Paul Bianchi was the recipient of 80,000 of them early in play.

Should Estafanous NOT cash, that opens the door for many players to overtake him and earn Player of the Year. The challenge is not an easy one, however.

Baumgartner would need to finish 15th or better - with no Estafanous cash - to take over the top spot - based on the finishes of other players still in the running, including Aaron Johnson, Alex Ziskin and Maurice Hawkins.

Johnson, Ziskin and Hawkins each need better than a final-table appearance - plus having neither Baumgartner or Estafanous make the 27-player redraw - to win the title.

It is math, folks, a lot of math, folks, to show all the combinations, but we'll keep you updated as the day goes along.
