While there were many stories to come out of the opening flight in the HPT $1100 Main Event at Golden Gates Poker Room in Blackhawk, CO, there was one constant.
Rob Schoder was the first to 60k, 100k, 200k, 300k, 400k, the first to slide BACK to 300k and bagged 299,000 at the end of the night to be the closest I've ever seen to a wire-to-wire Day 1 chipleader at any tourney I've covered in the last 10 years.
Gregory Wertsch had the chiplead for a while in Level 6, and stayed strong until dinner break, but simply ran bad once players returned and he was gone less than a single 40-minute level after dinner. Margaret Cathey was among the chipleaders early but she, and every other woman from Day 1A, did not make Day 2.
Here are the final chipcounts for the 16 players advancing to Sunday's Day 2
